Joe’s Shoe Service is owned and operated by me, Joe Siracuse.
In 1980, I received my training at the Connecticut Post Shoe Repair in Milford, Connecticut. In 1981, I bought Eagle Shoe Service in West Hartford. I then moved the shop to Burr Corner Plaza in Manchester in 1985 and changed the name to Joe’s Shoe Service. In 1989, we moved across to our current location in the plaza and in 2009, I moved again to the location right next door with a newly designed and expanded store.
Many people ask me how I got into shoe repairing. When I was in high school, my father told me at dinner one night about a conversation he had with his shoe repairer who told him all about what a great trade it was. Since I had never been in a shoe repair shop before, I didn’t think too much about it at the time.
About a year later, I was walking past the very shoe repair shop that my father had been talking about. I heard the machines and saw the repairer working. His name was Jimmy and I ended up watching him and talking with him for two hours that day. It looked like something I might enjoy.
I went back the next day and started to hang around the shop cleaning up and helping out. Jimmy started teaching me how to repair shoes to the point where I was able to run my own shop. After 9 months working for Jimmy, my parents bought me Eagle Shoe Service.
I now have over 30 years of experience in the shoe repair trade and I still enjoy coming to work everyday. I would like to thank my parents for helping me get started and to Jimmy for teaching me the great trade of shoe repair.
Devotion to quality workmanship is something I learned from Jimmy and is a hallmark of my business to this day. Please stop by the new shop with any of your shoe care needs. Thank you to all our valued customers.
